Thanks for dropping by Mike and Shils!

Mike... not sure if "this" the mother of all reversals. IMHO, the market has had a joyful ride since Trump was elected with no major local or global malaise to trigger a mother of all sell offs. Even the drama with North Korea was a non event. Thank you for your kind feedback; I'm glad someone was able to benefit from my posting.

Using EOD...

AMZN out at $1304.86 for 8%
LIT out at $39.83 for a slight 3% loss
XIV out at $137.76 for a 1% loss
TECL out at $126.27 for 5.9%
TNA out at $75.17 for 3.7%

Hindsight:
I bailed too early late Dec on probably less than optimal trading volumes (holidays) and re-mounted XIV on less than optimal entry as well. LIT was what I thought could have been a play on TSLA but it never moved. Going back to johnpauls' excellent question to me..."what is your sell trigger"? In this case, I don't have one yet. My gut ruled the day - XIV didn't start well despite the other stocks I was watching doing well during the morning and then the losing steam as the day progressed. I would imagine if I had access to see a 2 hour chart, this would have been evident (?).

I currently have no positions for the purposes of this blog. However, as I am interested in Options...I opened a small contract on VXX puts just prior to market close.

Scaling into DGAZ $22.20. Short VXX $26.50. Long RIOT $20.25 (broke my self imposed rule of not trading individual stocks) and long AMZN $1298.30

As Liz Ann Sonders, Chief Investment Strategist,of Charles Schwab & Co noted this week: Since 1993, if you bought SPY on open each day, return would be -5.2%...but if you did opposite & bought on close next day, return would be 568%. VIX suppressing moves in NYSE hours and releasing it out of hours. for some reason.

@pt...i must admit, I don't really listen or tune in to the talking heads anymore. Growing up, I remembered watching Lou Roukeyser (I think that was his name).

I read somewhere once....when the market is able to climb a wall of worry...it is a bull. I would really really really like some big mother correction tho...;=P

I agree with you in general. Jim Cramer? ha. I used to listen to Louis Rukeser(sp?) too. now they are just talking heads. However I read constantly about statistics. I will hold XIV still...but I think I am going to ramp up at times at the close for incremental overnight bumps.

What about Paul Kangas from the Nightly Business Report. Remember him.

@pt and Mac..LOL those names are dating us! IMHO, I don't think I remember seeing a great trader or investor on those shows. As a B&H investor for the longest time...I've had to deal with a lot "noise" from the "experts" and looking back...they were just that....noise. Cramer drives me nuts with his style. Kangas lulls me to sleep. LOL How bout some babes in bikini doing business report?

Seriously, I've learned more from he likes of you guys, four, K in GA, davesaint, TRO, johpaul, and shils. Some are more clear than others or more open but I find it is like putting a puzzle together. For me, sometimes it is very overwhelming.

My biggest challenge is understanding what is important/effective and being able to execute it as simple as it can be.

My current weakness is "chasing". I didn't like the "feel" of my trades in 2018. The first batch was "chasing" as the market as up and I had no position. And the current ones was more of the same. Goes back to what johnpaul was asking me...''what is my sell signal"? Right now, my simple answer is...I don't want to take a loss (hence my goal of 4% profit per trade after commission). Maybe sell at a 5% loss?

Have a great week of trading everyone!
